History
|
Environmental science and engineering research at Hacettepe University began in 1990 with the establishment of the Environmental Research and Application Centre. In 1993, a graduate program was developed with the establishment of Program of Environmental Science under the auspices of Institute of Science, offering Masters of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. Department of Environmental Engineering joined the Faculty of Engineering in 1997. Department of Environmental Science was restructured and renamed as the Department of Environmental Engineering in 2004. Currently, graduate programs (Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy) are active with over 80 graduate students enrolled in the program. A sustainability oriented graduate education is offered in accordance with the global trend. The faculty has relevant expertise on various fields of sustainability and theses focus on sustainability challenges of 21st century, from development of microbial fuel cells, creating life cycle inventories of metal oxide nanoparticles to assessment of the association between indoor pollution and prevalence and severity of illnesses susceptible populations. Following the graduate education philosophy, the undergraduate program also offers theoretical and practical knowledge in the thematic areas of sustainability as well as the core environmental engineering. Greater emphasis was placed in incorporation of modelling, use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for environmental problem solving and detailed environmental policy. The program thus enables the students to grasp recent modelling literature and relevant national, regional and global environmental policy.Department of Environmental Engineering has an Advanced Research Laboratory with necessary equipment for education, research and technology development. Knowledge on environmental analysis instrumentation and techniques are a crucial part of undergraduate education.The language of the Environmental Engineering Undergraduate program is English and graduates of the program will have advanced-level speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Admission Requirements
|
In order to register to the program, students must be high school graduate or have an equivalent degree from abroad and get sufficient score in OYSM national undergraduate placement exam (LYS) or in its equivalent exam abroad.
