Division of German Language Teaching



German Language Teaching has been sustaining undergraduate program by accepting students since 1983-84.The department which produced its first graduates in 1986-87 still has 263 registered undergraduate students and also carries out graduate program.



The aim of the German Language Teaching undergraduate program is to raise qualified German teachers and researchers who are aware of the importance of their profession in the society, sensible to humanity and society, endowed with the basic knowledge, skills and competencies and raise those internalize moral values, aim life-long learning, have open minds to working inter-disciplinarily, change and different cultures for mainstream and informal educational settings in our country.



Undergraduate program medium of which is German covers the fields of language,culture,literature and mostly language teaching.It aims to develop knowledge and skills in German language acquisition; language-culture interaction; literature; translation; language skills; material development and adaptation for language skills of different levels and age groups, preparing lesson plans considering students needs, expectations and especially training German teachers. Students participate in practice classes to turn their theoratical knowledge related to teaching into skills and develop their knowledge and skills and they start practicum in the last term of their education.

Admission Requirements
Candidates who enter student placement test of YKS and German test are accepted and all students are required to take proficiency exam. Those successful in the exam start as a freshman in German Language Teaching. Those who fail in the exam start German Preparatory School for one year.

Graduation Requirements
Undergraduate students studying in German Language Teaching are required to have a general academic average of 2.00 out of 4.00 in return for 240 ECTS credits to be able to graduate from the program.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of German Language Teaching can work as German teachers at schools, language courses, as instructors, research assistants at universities; as officials and translators at public and private institutions and organizations.
Assessment and Grading
Exams, Evaluation and Grading Students are required to take a final exam at the end of the term except from studies and exams during academic year. Each term at least one exam is conducted. Success evaluation of each course is in curriculum posted on website. Dates and places of exams are announced on the bulletin board and website of the department.
