Division of Guidance and Psychological Counseling


History
The first psychological counseling and guidance program in Turkey was established in 1974 by the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance within the Faculty of Social and Administrative Sciences of Hacettepe University. Later, 1982, with the new law of Higher Educational Council (YÖK Yasası), the department was changed to a division within the Department of Educational Sciences of the Faculty of Education. The program awarded its first degrees in 1986. Each year, around 60 persons graduate from the division. As the first in the country to offer a bachelor`s degree in psychological counseling and guidance, the Division of Psychological Counseling and Guidance and its degree program continue to set high-quality examples for the rest of the country.

Admission Requirements
Persons need to be at least high school graduates. Students are admitted to the program according to their TM-3 scores through national examination held by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
The biggest proportion of graduates of the program are employed at institutions (schools and Guidance and Research Centers) of the Ministry of National Education (MEB). They also work at private counseling centers, courts of family and children, private schools, special education and rehabilitation centers, Turkish Armed Forces, counseling centers at universities and other institutions that even include forensics.
