About Programme

Department of Geomatics Engineering

History
Geomatics (Geodesy and Geoinformatics) Engineering is the profession of acquisition, storage, processing, analysis, modeling, display and presentation of spatial data in digital environment. Spatial data are needed by a wide range of applications in many areas including civil engineering, architecture, city and regional planning, artificial intelligence and medical sciences.Geomatics engineering is one of the engineering disciplines with strategic importance. It is valued more and more everyday around the world along with the recent developments in information and space technologies. However, Turkey cannot provide adequate number of engineers with decent education, who are equipped with high technological background to fulfill the concerning requirements of the country. Therefore, the aim of the Geomatics Engineering Program is to educate and train engineers with high technological background in the areas of Space and Satellite Geodesy, Digital Photogrammetry, Digital Image Processing, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Geographic/City/Land Information Systems, Engineering Measurements, Laser Scanning Technology, Cadastre, Land Administration, Public Improvement, Digital Mapping, Disaster monitoring and Disaster Management Information Systems. The Program offers to bring its graduates:*Fundamentals of geomatics engineering,*Up-to-date technological methods and knowledge related to Space Geodesy, Digital Photogrammetry, Digital Image Processing, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Geographic/City/Land Information Systems, Engineering Measurements, Laser Scanning Technology, Cadastre, Land Administration, Public Improvement, Digital Mapping, Disaster Monitoring and Information Systems,*Fundamental concepts regarding the acquisition, processing, analysis, management and presentation of geographical data,*Competence in the determination of prominent factors in the design and upgrade stages of GIS and Spatial Database System and finding analytical solutions to related problems. The Geomatics Engineering Undergraduate Program was prepared in the light of recent developments around the world and places a premium on Information Technology (IT) and its applications. The language of instruction for the Undergraduate Program is English. The students, who are enrolled to the Program but who cannot satisfy the exemption requirements for English that are determined by Hacettepe University, must successfully complete the English Preparatory Program in School of Foreign Languages before their registry to the Undergraduate Program.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Geographic Information Technologies are among growing and developing disciplines in our country as around the world. There are many job opportunities for graduates of Geomatics Engineering. Graduates are able to work in public institutions or private corporations by selecting a branch from a wide variety of areas like geographic/city/land/disaster information systems, infrastructure, civil engineering, land improvement, planning, energy, environment, forestry, transportation, defense industry, and communication sectors. These sectors hold an important position economically when Turkey's circumstances are considered. That's why there is a requirement for well-educated, qualified and experienced Geomatics Engineers in these sectors who can improve and make these sectors competitive with developed countries.
Assessment and Grading
