About Programme

The department of Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures was founded by Prof. Emine Yılmaz, in 2012. In the 2013-2014 academic year, the department started to give the MA courses by the five academic staff members.



In the 2014-2015 academic year, BA program started with 41 students placed by YÖK (Council of Higher Education). The Department of Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures has a bachelor's degree program, which is designed to provide a four-year formal education depending on the Faculty of Letters. The language of instruction is Turkish (except the compulsory foreign language courses). Undergraduate students are required to study foreign language in first year.



Our aim with the program of Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures is to create a high level academic education in cooperation with the departments of Turkish Language and Literature, Turkish Language and Literature Teaching, Turcology, Turkish Language Teaching, Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literature departments in Turkey and abroad. Our another main aim is to educate new researchers abağnd academics; and also to train individuals who have the skills to work in Turkish Language and Literature teaching staff in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education.



Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures degree program in which Turkic languages are studied in a linguistic method will make our university more attractive to foreign researchers and students and this will also be an advantage for our university.

Admission Requirements
In order to be admitted to the Department of Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures, the student is required to have completed the Turkish secondary education (or an equivalent education abroad) and to have obtained sufficient grades from the national university exam.Students are required to enter exams organized by ÖSYM, to fill out the required forms and to enter the required listing from a sufficient number. The placement of the student in the department is carried out by ÖSYM as a result of the central placement system.For detailed information, consult the ÖSYM website (http://www.osym.gov.tr). Students of foreign nationalities are accepted to the program under the requirements of the Hacettepe University Senate.

Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the program, students are required to complete the following requirements:*Have taken all the courses determined in their program and passed them, acquiring a minimum of 240 ECTS credits,*Have a minimum GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00 by the end of their undergraduate courses.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Career opportunities for the graduates of the Department of Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures are quite rich.While some of our graduates work as lecturers or research assistants in related departments of private and state universities, others work at ministries, at national and international institutions and companies, at visual and print media institutions, at publishing houses and news agencies.In addition, they can work in related Intuitions as Atatürk Kültür Merkezi, Türk Dil Kurumu, Tarih Kurumu, in Embassies, Media, Ministry of Culture, Translation Offices, Foreign Educational Institutions related to Turkic World, Archives, Libraries and private companies.
Assessment and Grading
In Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures department, in addition to the midterm and final exams, assignments, practices and presentations that will contribute to the development of the student are made.
