General İnformation About the Program
The foundations of the Speech and Language Therapy Program were laid with the initiation of the Audiology Master's Program affiliated with the Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education Faculty in 1968. The master's program, initially conducted as Audiology until 1989 at Hacettepe University, was later revised to continue as the "Audiology and Speech Disorders" Master's and Doctoral education. The Department of Speech and Language Therapy was established on April 17, 2013. On April 18, 2013, the Hacettepe University Faculty of Health Sciences opened the Speech and Language Therapy Undergraduate Program, and the admission of undergraduate students was approved for the 2013-2014 Academic Year. On December 17, 2014, upon the decision of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the Department of Speech and Language Therapy at the Faculty of Health Sciences was transformed into the Department of Speech and Language Therapy.
The primary aim of the Speech and Language Therapy Undergraduate Program is to train speech and language therapists who play a role in the realization of goals planned within the health and rehabilitation field. In addition to taking a significant step towards meeting the needs of society with the graduation of students from the Speech and Language Therapy undergraduate program, it is aimed to ensure education standards and enhance the quality of education.
The Speech and Language Therapy undergraduate education is provided full-time for 4 years. The language of instruction is Turkish. Courses are conducted both theoretically and practically. Students are responsible for conducting field and institution internships related to their areas of study, preparing reports, seminars, educational and research projects, and making oral presentations.

Fundamentals of the Program of Speech and Language Therapy have been taken depending on the master program of Audiology in Faculty of Postgraduate Education Hacettepe University in 1968. Since 1989 the master program of Audiology had revised and has continued its education programs as Department of Speech-Language Therapy was established in April 17th 2013. Afterwards Bachelor’s Degree Program in Language and Speech Disorders was formed on April 18 th 2013. Education language is Turkish. All of the courses have been implemented as a required and elective courses. Our department graduates takes the title of "Speech-Language Therapist" after the graduation. All graduates can take their professional role in health system and also they can go on developing their academic skills.On December 17, 2014 Speech and Language Therapy department was established in the faculty of Health Sciences based on the decision of the Counsil of Higher Education (YOK). The main aim of the Speech and Language Therapy department undergraduate programme is to produce professionals who have the theoretical knowledge and clinical skills in preparation to work as competence speech and language therapists in health service. The graduation of the students from the Speech and Language Therapy program will not only be a starting point for meeting the needs of the public but also will provide an enhancement in the quality of education and standardization.The undergraduate program is a full-time, 4 years programme. Language of education is Turkish. Courses are implemented theoretically and practicum.Through the educational programme, the students are in charge of preparing research projects, making presentations and completing their practicums in the field of speech and language pathology.

Admission Requirements
|
To register to Program of Speech-Language Therapy, candidates should finish high school education or have similar degree to Turkish secondary educational system and take enough (MF) in national university exam (NUE). Department of Speech-Language Therapy accepts students with (NUE) (MF)-3 scoring system.

Graduation Requirements
|
To be able to graduate from the department of Speech-Language Therapy, all students have to complete 240 ECTS successfully.DKT 290 and DKT 390 courses are planned for 4 weeks duration, lasting for 5 days in a week and 6 hours in a day. DKT 403, 404, 406, 407, 409, 421, 422, 423, 424, 425, 426 courses are planned for 4 weeks duration, lasting for 5 days in a week and 4 hours in a day.In the course DKP 401, ´Speech and Language Disorders I` seminars have to be carried out and at the end of seventh and eighth semester,in the course of DKP 402, preparing a project is obligatory.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
|
Our graduation students could be work as a speech-language therapist in hospitals, companies, ENT centers, education centers etc. Also after graduation in higher studies, they could work as in research position in universities.The occupational law of speech and language therapist, was entered into force in the scope of 6225 numbered law, based on some regulations on the law and decree of law, and published in the official newspaper of Turkish government.A speech and language therapist is a health professional who is graduated from the departments which give undergraduate education in the field of speech and language pathology or who owns a different bachelor of science degree but completed a graduate/ doctoral programme in the field of speech and language pathology and who works for the prevention of language, speech and voice disorders and also who is responsible for the rehabilitation process of swallowing disorders (diagnosed the specialist doctor) and speech, language disorders. Speech-Language Pathologists work in a variety of clinical and educational settings: in public and private hospitals, special education centers, universities and private centers.
