History
Civil Engineering is a basic engineering discipline in which the material and the technology comes together to plan, construct and supervise structures. Civil engineers design, construct and supervise any kind of structures including buildings, dams, airports, bridges, highways, aqueducts, costs, sanitary and water systems, tunnels, railways, high speed railway projects, light weight railway projects and so on. Civil Engineering is one of the oldest engineering disciplines. Traditionally, Civil Engineering is divided into include environmental engineering, geotechnics, city planning engineering, coastal engineering, land survey, structural engineering, foundation engineering, hydraulic engineering, materials science and transportation engineering. The world today needs solutions for reaching the limited resources more easily and healthier taking into account the social, cultural, environmental and political susceptibilities. Rapidly developing computer technologies, developments in construction materials, changes in structural construction techniques makes the Civil Engineering more important nowadays. Daily problems such as climate changes and probable environmental effects, use of alternative and renewable energy sources are the subject matter of Civil Engineering and makes Civil Engineering one of the disciplines that makes joint studies and projects with other engineering and social sciences. While developing the undergraduate curriculum, national and international developments in Civil Engineering are taken into account and differently from the similar programs in Turkey, ever-growing computational techniques and use of these technologies are emphasized. The education language in undergraduate Civil Engineering is English. In order to register to the program, students must take an English proficiency exam first which is supervised by Hacettepe University - Department of Foreign Language. Students who pass the English exam will be able to register to the program. On the other hand, students who fail the exam must take English courses in Department of Foreign Language. After complete English preparation program in Department of Foreign Language, students can register to courses of Civil Engineering undergraduate program.
