Choreology is the ballet plays notation system developed for archiving. Within many of the current system of scripting techniques, Benesh Movement Notation is the most valid which was introduced in the UK in 1955. The first dance notation in Turkey in 1966, was within the Department of the Ankara State Conservatory, namely Ballet Dance Scripting. This course was instructed by Chor FI. Suna Eden Senel, one of the first graduates of the institute in London Institute of Choreology.In 1987, Rosalynd Elliott from The Benesh Institute in London Choreology was called upon to provide training under the Ballet Department, and "Choreology-Choreography Department" was established. In 1998, Choreology Art Department, with the initiative of the President Ç.Seda Altug, the Graduate Program was established. Hacettepe University, with a 4-year undergraduate and graduate programs, the only university in Turkey, providing Choreology training.Choreology Dept., undergraduate and graduate programs carried out today, teaches all sub-disciplines of modern methods and techniques of Choreology and closely follow the international arena. The current studies and scientific publications continues to contribute to strong academic background.

Admission Requirements

In order to be accepted to this program, student must be high school graduate. Graduates other than high school conservatory programs, and special abilities shall take YGS exam and special aptitude exam. Conservatory high school graduates are considered with a special aptitude exam as well. Graduation Requirements

In order to graduatefrom this program, In addition tothe conditionsreferred in Article Hacettepe University, Associate Degree,Bachelor's DegreeEducation andExaminationRegulation Number 30, student should also complete each semesterfor at least 1in-Department ElectiveCourseand, with the exception of local credits, shall at least get 143 national and a total of 240 ECTS credits.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Turkey's only university training Choreologysts is the Hacettepe University. As well as teaching opportunities at State Conservatory, Hacettepe University trains graduates to work as the State Opera and Ballet as Choreologyst. Discussions with national and international stakeholders; It was concluded that the reduction of hours of Dance notation classes in middle and high school programs or inclusion within elective pool would end with students missing the necessary knowhow. This would also create problems in terms of reduction of the employment rate of the graduates. Additionly, the enforced limitations for the "ballet notators" within the State Opera and Ballet' and staff from exams not open for long periods creates unfair cases.Global notations used in the fields of; Folk Dance, Gymnastics, even physical therapy, is being recognition of the initiatives started.
