About Programme

The department of Mechanical Engineering at Hacettepe university was founded in 1992. Turkey’s first undergraduate automotive engineering program offered by the department admitted its first stream of students in 2005. A Master of Science and PhD programs in Mechanical Engineering commenced in Spring 2009 and Fall 2015, respectively. Our department will offer an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering beginning in 2018-2019 academic year.

History
The Department of Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program admitted its first stream of students in 2018-2019 academic year. The annual admission quota is 80. The language of instruction in the program is English. The students must successfully pass language proficiency test in English to begin their program. The graduates of the program mainly work in leading defense, automotive, machine, manufacturing and energy firms and continue their graduate studies in Turkish universities and universities abroad. The Department of Mechanical Engineering currently has 16 faculty members. The department is very active in research and also offers M.S. and PhD programs in Mechanical Engineering. The research focus of the department lies in the areas of solid mechanics and design, mechanisms and machine theory, automotive, materials, control, mechatronics, sensors and thermal-fluids engineering and energy.

Admission Requirements
Turkish Nationals need to obtain a sufficient score in the nationwide University Entrance Examination administered by OSYM. International student admissions and lateral student transfers are carried out according to the regulations set forth by the Student Affair`s Office.

Graduation Requirements
Students;
*should successfully complete at least 240 ECTS.
*should successfully complete all must courses given in D.8.
*Students should successfully complete 30 ECTS of in-field (technical) electives.
*Students should successfully complete 8 ECTS of out-of-field (non-technical) electives.
*Students should successfully complete at least 20 ECTS of MMÜ/OMÜ coded in-field (technical) elective courses.
*Students should successfully complete machine shop training (MMÜ 200) and summer practices (MMÜ 300, MMÜ 400) which are each 20 business days.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates can work in private sector, government, and continue to graduate level studies. The graduates mainly work in R&D, testing, product development, quality control, manufacturing, marketing, and sales departments of automotive, defence, machine and energy industries.
Assessment and Grading
The grading system of each course is included in the course information package. Examinations and grading system is determined by Hacettepe University Registrar's Office Regulations.
