The Department of Music Sciences was established in 1986 under the name of the Department of Ethnomusicology and Folklore, within the body of Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, and started education in 1988.

The name of the department was changed to Musicology in 2007 and Music Sciences in 2015. Today, there are three departments in the Music Sciences Department: Musicology Department, Music Theories Department and Music Technologies Department.

These departments, with their undergraduate and graduate programs, provide education for all sub-disciplines of musicology with contemporary methods and techniques, closely follow current international studies and continue to contribute to academic knowledge with their scientific publications.

History
Department of Musicology which was founded in 1986 with the name of "Department of Ethnomusicology and Folklore" under Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, has started training in 1988.
In 2007 name of the department was changed as "Musicology". By means of restructuring, the existing Department of Ethnomusicology and Folklore, however, is converted to Department of Musicology and a revision of the program has been made.
Department of Musicology, by means of the undergraduate and graduate programs carried out today, gives training in all sub-disciplines of musicology with modern methods and techniques, follows closely the current international studies and continues to contribute to academic knowledge by means of scientific publications.

Admission Requirements
In order to be accepted to this programme it is required to be high school graduates. Students are selected by means of "TYT" and Special Talents Exam. For international students, the conditions laid down by Hacettepe University for the acceptance of foreign students are applied (http://www.iso.hacettepe.edu.tr/).

In order to graduate from this program, in addition to the conditions for graduation referred to in Article 30 of Associate Degree and Bachelor's Degree Education and Examination Regulation of Hacettepe University, it is required to obtain the lowest total of 155 national credits eand a total sum of 240 ECTS credits.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of this programme can work as academics in higher education institutions and as musicologists in the state-owned art institutions such as the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, the State Opera and Ballet, the State Theatre, TRT and the Ministry of Culture or in the private sector art institutions. In addition, taking the necessary pedagogical formation, they can teach music at educational institutions.
Assessment and Grading
Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the information package. Midterms and final exams of Western Music Theory I-VII, Traditional Turkish Music Theory I-IV, Piano I-II and Traditional Turkish Music Instruments I-II are due to jury evaluation.
