Performing Arts Department- Division of Theatre- Department of Acting is the first theatre department in Turkey that train actor candidates academically.  The department was one of the two subdivisions of "Conservatory" which was established as "Musiki Muallim Mektebi" (Music Teachers' Training School) in 1936.  The department was  founded by a German theatre and opera director,  Prof. Dr. Carl Ebert, who was invited to establish an acting department in the conservatory by young Turkish Republic`s first government .The education programme prepared by Carl Ebert to train actors, directors and theatre educators and experts aimed to establish a national method for performing arts as a basis but it also had the characteristics of Konstantin Stanislavski and Max Reinhardt`s theatrical approaches including Russian and German acting and directing methods. After Conservatory was affiliated to Hacettepe University in 1982, Acting Department became a subdivision of Divison of Theatre. Besides Stanislavski`s Acting Method, an education programme enrichened by contemporary acting methods and techniques which has strong tides with national/local researches and techniques started to be applied in the department. Hacettepe University, Ankara State Conservatory, Divison of Theatre has trained a large number of artists until today and it is the feeding source for many establishments of arts in our country. Ankara State Conservatory is proud of contributing to the socio-cultural and artistic values of the Turkish society by means of  activities of art and scientific research. In the undergraduate education of the department, national and international acting education programmes are closely followed; interdisciplinary relations with other arts and science branches are regarded with great emphasis; national/local sources for theatre art is taken into great consideration; the education is supported with conferences, seminars, workshops. The department aims to train creative artists equipped with well-grounded knowledge of arts and culture in the global standards and to train qualified  graduates professionally preferred by all establishments.

Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from this programme, student shall at least get 167 national and a total of 240 ECTS credits besides Hacettepe University, Undergraduate and Graduate Examination in the Regulations below in the 30th article. Occupational Profiles of Graduates
The actor candidates who are graduated from Performing Arts Department-Division of Theatre-Acting Department could work as professional actors in theatre, cinema and performing arts business. They could work as subsidized actors in the State`s Theatre, City Theatres and/or important private theatre companies in Turkey or they could establish their own theatres and they could work as actors and/or managers of those new establishments. They could also work in cinema and TV productions, advertising business and serve as acting coaches in acting agencies. Some of the graduate students could continue their education as graduate students of master`s and Ph.d degree candidates abroad. They could also take place in foreign theatre companies and/or workshops so as to develop themselves in their professional lives. The graduate students could work as academians in the universities in case they are graduated from a master`s degree or they could have work as drama teachers at private or governmental schools by having a pedagogical formation.

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are defined in “Course Teaching Plan” which belongs to Information package presented by instructor.
