Ankara State Conservatory was established upon the request of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in order to reconstruct the musical life of Turkish Republic in 1936. String Instruments Department was set by the leadership of Lico Amar - a violin player and trainer. Walter Gerhard (violin player and trainer), A. Haendschke (violin player and trainer), Adolf Winkler (violin player), Walter Wunsch (violin player), Necdet Remzi Atak (violin player), Mahmut Ragıp Gazimihal (violin player), İzzet Nezihi Albayrak (viola and violin player), are some of the first trainers of the department. Ankara State Conservatory was made a part of Hacettepe University under the laws of Board of Higher Education in 1928. String Instruments Department continue to contribute both to academic education period and to the art and musical educational establishments taking place within the national and international framework with undergraduate and postgraduate (qualification and post graduate and art) programs carried out.

It is required to be a high-school graduate to be accepted within this program. Students are accepted to this program through special talent examination. Graduation Requirements
Apart from the conditions stated on the 30th article of Hacettepe University Associate degree, Undergraduate Education, Exam Regulation, it is required to achieve at least 121 national credits and 240 ECTS credits in total, excluding the common compulsory courses.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Those graduated from our program have the employment opportunities as a player in orchestra or vocal in state and private orchestras (symphony, opera, academic orchestras and chamber orchestras of universities); as an Academician in State and Private Conservatories; as a group member in financed chamber music groups; all of which operates in land or in foreign countries.
Assessment and Grading
The measurement and evaluation methods applied to each course are defined in the “Course Plan” which is shown in the Information Package and prepared by the related instructor. The articles 23-28 of the Hacettepe University Associate Degree, Bachelor’s Degree Educational and Examination Regulation are valid for the exam and course success grades.
