About Programme

The aim of the Bachelor's Degree Program in Band Conducting is to train band conductors who constitute the educational and managerial staff of our bands, which are the source of morale and enthusiastic voice of the modern Republic of Turkey and our army. 



In this sense, it is aimed to train band conductors who are at peace with themselves, who have absorbed the ethics of art and science and the values of the republic, who do not fall into individual contradictions with the contemporary world, who are friendly and programmed, who are happy to work, who continue their efforts to improve their skills, knowledge and skills, and experience every day, and who are committed to science, To train band conductors and music educators who have the desire to improve their skills and qualifications in the field of specialization by following the innovations in the field of technique and art, especially in music, and who contribute to the cultural environment with their artistic and scientific studies in their field.

History
General Information About the ProgramThe first formal education institution where bandmasters were educated during the Republic Period was Music Teacher`s College.
In accordance with 1059 numbered regulations of 1455 numbered law, Music Teacher`s College began to educate bandmasters on behalf of the Ministry of National Defense as of 1929.
Osman Zeki Ungor, Veli Kanık and Ihsan Servet Kuncer are among its founders.In accordance with National Music and Representation Academy Law that was published in the official gazette and came into force with the date, 4 July 1934 and 2743 number and Law of Ankara State Conservatory, dependent on Ministry of National Education, which was published in the official gazette with the date, 24 May 1940 and 4517 number, band officers were continued to be educated within the same frame.
In 6th May 1936, following five-year basic education in the branches of copper instruments, reedy instruments, percussion instruments, seven-year education period that was in the equivalence of high school was stipulated and band officers did not get band conducting education.
With the protocol that was prepared between the Ministry of National Defense and Ankara State Conservatory (according to the provisions of the regulation that was later published in 20 August 1956 dated and 12080 numbered official gazette), for the first time, it began to admit students to Conservatory Band Conducting Department.
According to the provisions of the regulation that came into force in 1965, the band conducting education, which was applied as seven years following five-year basic education in the departments of Brass and Percussion Instruments and piano in the previous terms, was determined as five years in total; three years as middle (high school) stage, two years as upper stage, this time.
Students have been admitted with exam to Ankara State Conservatory, Department of Band Conducting as of 1963.
In accordance with the protocol that was prepared with the authorized officials of General Staff, Ministry of Culture and Ankara State Conservatory and according to the provisions of the previous regulation in 1975, students were admitted with an exam from Band Training School`s students who completed the preparation department (High school) in 1975-1976 academic year.With 5th and 18the articles of State Conservatory Regulation and changes that came into force through being published in 20 June 1979 dated and 16672 numbered official gazette, intermediate stage classes (High school) were abated and upper stage was determined as four years.
With 41 numbered executive order that was enacted in 1982 and 2809 numbered Law which replaced that in 1983, Ankara State Conservatory was included within the scope of universities (within the scope of Hacettepe University). During this term, dignified lecturers such as Prof. Hikmet SIMSEK, Prof. Sabahattin KALENDAR, Prof. Muammer SUN, Prof. Muzaffer ARKAN, Prof. Istemihan TAVILOGLU and Associate Professor. Ozkan DIZMEN, Assistant Professor. Turgay ERDENER gave a lecture in the Department of Band Conducting, Art Branch.
Band Conducting Education is currently maintained in Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, Department of Composition and Orchestral Conducting under the tutelage of the Head of the Department of Band Conducting, Dogan CAKAR, with the honor and responsibility of being the unique formal education institution which educates bandmaster to the bands of Turkish Armed Forces( Land, Naval, Air and Gendarmerie) with qualified, prominent lecturers and faculty members.

In order to be accepted to the program, you must be a high school graduate (Music).
Students are accepted to the program by special talent exam.

Graduation Requirements
The graduation conditions specified in Article 30 of Hacettepe University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations are valid (http://www.resmi-gazete.org/rega/hacettepe-universitesi-on-lisans-lisans-egitim-ogretim-ve-sinav-yonetmeligi-33210.htm).
As per the 15.08.2012 dated senate decisions, some changes have been made regarding exams and course grades.
In addition to the stated graduation requirements, it is necessary to obtain a minimum total of 240 ECTS / 135 credits, excluding common compulsory courses.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
The graduates of this program are assigned as conductor and assistant conductor in Turkish Armed Forces, Land, Naval and Air Forces and Gendarmerie Bands.
They are assigned as vocational courses teacher in Band Teachers Commandership, Vocational School of Higher Education and High School.
Assessment and Grading
The assessment and evaluation methods applied for each course are defined in the information package of the relevant course.
While the passing grade for courses whose final exams are conducted by the course instructor is 50, the passing grade for courses whose final exams are conducted by a jury is 70.
