About Programme

The aim of the Undergraduate Program in Composition is to train composers and educators who will work in music and music education institutions, who are equipped with basic knowledge, skills and attitudes, who have internalized the ethics of art and science, who closely follow the developments in the field, who contribute to these developments with their studies in scientific, technological, visual and auditory fields, who are foresighted, respectful, participatory and have a high level of aesthetic appreciation, who are open to innovations and developments.


History
Ankara State Conservatory was established by "the Law on National Music and Performance Academy" no: 2541 and dated 25 June 1934 in the direction of targets of "raising our national culture over contemporary civilization level" of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and following his instruction in 1933. It started to education as a result of the examination made between 6-12 May 1936 in School of Music Teachers that its transformation to conservatory was envisaged in accordance with the detailed report titled " Proposals for Saving Turkish Musical Life" of Paul Hindemith who came to Turkey on 6 April 1935 upon invitation. (1936) Necil Kazım Akses, Hasan Ferit Alnar, Ulvi Cemal Erkin and (1950) Ahmed Adnan Saygun are among the first composition teachers.Ankara State Conservatory kept on its education affiliated to Ministry of National Education between 1934-1974 and to General Directorate of Fine Arts of Ministry of Culture between 1971-1982. With the statutory decree no: 41,issued in 1982 and the Law no: 2809, replacing that in 1983, Ankara State Conservatory was taken to the scope of YÖK (HEI) (within Hacettepe University) together with all higher education institutions.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
The graduates of this program can work as academician in higher education institutions or as instructor in the art institutions of private sector as well as continuing their composition life individually.
Assessment and Grading
The assessment and evaluation methods applied for each course are defined in the information package of the relevant course. While the passing grade for courses whose final exams are conducted by the course instructor is 50, the passing grade for courses whose final exams are conducted by a jury is 70.
