The Department of Philosophy



 



The program has a total of 58 undergraduate courses, 42 elective and 16 compulsory. In addition to these courses, students are required to take Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution, Turkish Language Literature, and Basic English service courses, which are compulsory throughout the university. Students can optionally take elective courses from Sociology and Psychology departments. At the same time, they can also include SEÇ coded courses offered throughout the university in their program. The program is academic-oriented and the compulsory courses to be taken during the four years of the program consist of courses on the history of philosophy and courses on the basic disciplines of philosophy.

History
The Department of Philosophy was founded in 1969. It covers a wide range of fields in the history of philosophy and offers programmes in undergraduate and graduate levels. There are elective courses for students from other departments, especially for students from the Department of Sociology and of Psychology who want to pursue a career as a high-school teacher. The language of education is Turkish. The department has Erasmus, Farabi and Mevlana agreements with several universities. In addition, the department offers minor degree programs in various fields and double major program with Department of Biology and Sociology provided that the student meets the criteria.

Admission Requirements
In order to be admitted, at least a high-school diploma is required. Besides, students must pass the YKS exam.

Graduation Requirements
240 ECTS are the required credit for students to graduate, and at least 40% of the elective courses that students can include in their programs should consist of elective courses within the department. This corresponds to 30 national credits and approximately 50 ECTS. For graduation, all compulsory courses must be successfully passed and a GPA of at least 2.00 is required.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Our graduates are able to find position in university departments of philosophy, in private and public educational institutions, in related units of various ministries, in media including TRT, and in the units of education, culture, human relations, planning and assessment of various private and public corporations.

Measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course related faculty member / s The course is defined in the "Course Curriculum" prepared by H.U. and included in the information package. The relevant articles of H.U. Associate Degree, Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations are applied regarding exams and course grades.
