About Programme

The Department of Economics was founded in 1967 by Prof. Osman Okyar, one of the leading scholars of economics in Turkey. The Department entered under the umbrella of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in 1982.

History
The Department of Economics was founded in 1967 by Professor Osman Okyar, one of the earliest leading scholars of profession in Turkey. In 1982, the Department became a part of newly founded Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. The Department of Economics has four academic programs, two under-graduate and two post-graduate: Bachelor's program in Turkish since 1969Master's program since 1973Doctoral program since 1976Bachelor's program in English since 1993The aim of Bachelor's programs is to graduate young economists to be employed both in private and in public sectors. In public sector, alumni have been employed in prestigious government units such as the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Turkish Treasury, Capital Markets Board, State Planning Organization, Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency, and the Secretariat General for EU Affairs. The aim of Master's program is to provide students with the core of economic theory and research methods in advanced levels. Doctoral program aims to raise young scholars to universities.

Our department welcomes students with secondary degree from Turkish schools or equivalent and further who have the required score from the university exam (YGS; TM-1)
