History
The department of mathematics of Hacettepe University was founded in 1965 under the name "Department of Mathematics and Statistics"; and is continuing to carry out education and research activities under its current name since 1970. Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science offers a four-year undergraduate education program which meets the international standards at a very high level. The language of instruction is Turkish. There are currently 6 research groups in the department, namely:*Algebra and Number Theory*Theory of Functions and Functional Analysis*Geometry*Fundamentals of Mathematics and Mathematical Logic*Topology*Applied Mathematics Besides the courses offered for our undergraduate program, our department offers math courses for various departments of faculty of engineering, administrative sciences, pharmacology and health sciences as well. Our department offers an MSc. (with thesis) and a Ph.D. program as well. We also have double minor programs joint with Department of Computer Engineering and Department of Statistics. We send our students to study abroad to various universities of Europe under student exchange programs(Erasmus) and accepts students from the corresponding European universities. We have a computer lab which is used for various courses that require computer applications and are open to all students. We also provide our students with the opportunity of interm studies along the carriers they aim to do after their graduation.

Graduation Requirements
The undergraduate program of mathematics department of Hacettepe University consists of 8 semesters. In the program there are courses which sum up to 240 ECTS credits that split up to 30 ECTS credits per semester. Among the courses there are those that are nontechnical as well as math courses. 33 % of the courses are elective. 78 % of the courses are math electives whereas 22 % are nontechnical.

COMPULSORY COURSES : Must courses sum up to 161 ECTS credits.

ELECTIVE COURSES: Math electives sum up to 62 ECTS credits and they are obligatory for graduation.

NON TECHNICAL ELECTIVE COURSES: Non technical electives sum up to 17 ECTS credits and they are not obligatory, that is they could be replaced by math electives as well as any other undergraduate electives that the university offers.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Our graduates have the opportunity to work in a wide range of employment sectors; academics, informatics(software engineering, computer technician, etc.), finance and banking, service industry are several of those employment sectors. State employment is also possible.
Assessment and Grading

The evaluation and grading of each course is regulated by its own “course syllabus” that is included in the information package concerning evaluation and grading system. Evaluation of exams and letter grades are done according to “Regulations concerning associate and undergraduate education degree and exams in Hacettepe University” (see Hacettepe University Regulations on Undergraduate Education and Examination).
