MISSION



The mission of Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry is to train productive and highly qualified dentists who respect ethical values, have communication, problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities, capable of doing research, are literate of information and communication technology, and thus reach constantly updated information; to contribute to the science in dentistry by providing research opportunities; to carry out all necessary activities at the highest level in order to provide qualified and contemporary dental treatment services for the protection of public oral and dental health.

To be a leading education center with its education quality and research activities at national and international level, to perfect student and employee satisfaction with its participatory management model, to be a health institution that provides quality in service for the oral and dental health of the society using the most advanced technology.

History
Hacettepe University Child Health Institute and Hospital was established in 1957 in Hacettepe and in 1958, it continued its education, training and research activities and went into public service. Hacettepe School of Health Sciences was established in 1961 and became the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1963. The School of Dentistry affiliated to this faculty was established as the second dentistry school in Turkey, dentistry education started with 30 students and the education period was determined as 5 years. The School, which gave its first dentistry graduates in 1968, was turned into a faculty in 1971. The History of Dentistry, the first copyrighted work addressed to the Faculty of Dentistry of Hacettepe University, was published in 1973 by Prof. Dr. Yuksel Noras. Due to the need to adapt to contemporary dentistry, Periodontology in 1970, in addition to the Surgery and Prosthodontics; Departments of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology in 1973; Pedodontics and Orthodontics in 1975; Endodontics in 1976 were established.

The faculty building, which was relocated several times in Hacettepe University Sıhhiye Campus, gained its new and modern building in 2009, and post-graduation education, as well as pre-graduate dentistry education, continued to be given with the PhD programs of 8 departments. With the publication of the "Specialty Training in Medicine and Dentistry" regulation in 2011, postgraduate specialty trainings have been started in the Faculty since 2012. In 2018, Oral Biology and Community Oral and Dental Health PhD programs were started by establishing the Oral and Dental Health Research Department under the roof of Hacettepe University Health Sciences Institute in order to train post-specialist researchers. 4263 dentists graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry, including 2021, the number of those who received a Phd degree is 553, the number of those who have received a specialist degree is 125, 8 specialists and 2 dentists are studying in recently opened PhD programs.

The first journal of our faculty started its publication life in 1977 under the name of "The Journal of Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry". It continued to be published under the name of "Clinical Dentistry and Research" in its new format in 2011 and has been included in the journal category indexed by TUBITAK since January 2013.

In our faculty, the Bologna Process studies and the comprehensive update of the undergraduate dentistry education curriculum were carried out in 2012 and were put into practice in the 2013-2014 academic year.

Our faculty has been a member with ADEE (Association for Dental Education in Europe) which was established by the dentistry faculties of European Union countries for educational purposes since 2004. Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry pre-graduate dentistry education program was evaluated by ADEE on 11-15 April 2015 and our Faculty was entitled to use the ADEE logo. The "Certificate" given to our faculty by ADEE was presented at the annual meeting held in Szeged, Hungary on 28 August 2015.

Our faculty has been doing mutual student and lecturer exchanges since 2007 by cooperating with European Universities within the scope of the Erasmus Programme.

The announcement of Hacettepe University as a research university in 2017 led to significant changes and structural arrangements in all units, including our faculty. At the point of our international recognition, our Faculty was ranked 103rd in the "World's Top 200 Universities" list in the 2016-17 evaluation of URAP (University Ranking By Academic Performance), 147th in 2020, 154th in 2021 and ranked as the "Best Ranking Faculty " in Turkey in this field.

Admission Requirements
To be accepted to dentistry programme, Turkish secondary education degree or a foreign equivalent degree should be taken. Students should have a passing grade from the national "Undergraduate Placement Exam (LYS)" on the basis of MF scoring type and fulfill the requirements of Higher Education Council(YÖK) of Turkey. Registrations of students are done on the days determined and declared by the Presidency of the University. Requirements and quotas for foreign students who will be accepted to undergraduate programs are determined by the University and can be followed on Registrar`s Office website each year on May. Hacettepe University, a leader in the field of health; At the clinical, experimental and community level, it has the resources to support dentistry education with basic medicine, engineering, natural sciences and social sciences, to conduct research and development (R&D) and to develop new domestic products, and offers doctoral education opportunities at international standards.The Department of Oral and Dental Health Research, which is a first in Turkey in order to bring together the scientific fields of dentistry and science fields from different disciplines, which has a universal level in terms of quality and quantity, in order to develop research opportunities and preserve the function of acquiring qualifications for academic staff, was established on 17.05.2019. It was established under the Institute of Science.
Head of the Department, who was the faculty dean at that time, Prof. Dr. A. Rüya Yazıcı conducted it between 2019-2021. As of 15.09.2021, our faculty dean, Prof. Dr. Tülin Taner is doing it.
Within the Department, there are 2 doctorate programs, namely Oral Biology and Community Oral and Dental Health, with distinguished faculty members from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. While those who graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry and completed their specialization training can apply to the Oral Biology doctorate program, dentistry graduates are accepted to the Community Oral and Dental Health doctorate program.
With these doctoral programs, researchers and academicians who can effectively guide oral health studies, services and policies, who carry out qualified research on a universal scale, who can create a bridge of knowledge and expertise between basic medical sciences and dentistry clinical science disciplines, who can think independently, who are committed to ethical values, who question and who are equipped. cultivation is provided. These people, by taking responsibility for similar programs that can be established in different universities later on, will create the infrastructure that will carry out oral and dental health researches all over Turkey at a scientific level.

Graduation Requirements
300 ECTS credits of compulsory and elective courses in theoretical, practical and clinical applications during five years should be successfully completed. Average success score must be at least 55 out of 100. A total of 30 ECTS credits must be completed each semester. In practical applications, a certain number of work should be completed and delivered during a certain period of time each year. Clinical training is added to theoretical courses in 4th and 5th classes. In clinical training courses, students have to treat a certain number of patients and need to be successful in practical and oral exams.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates can work in the hospitals of Ministery of Health, private health institutions and in their own dental office as a dentist. They can also enter the specialization exam in dentistry (DUS) and have the opportunity to be a specialist by attending the specialisation programmes of departments and can do academic career according to their success.
Assessment and Grading
Success in all courses in the Faculty of Dentistry is determined by the course grade. The course success grade is obtained by evaluating the success of the student during the semester (midterm exams and homework that replaces the midterm exam, applied studies, etc.) and the general/make-up exam together. Course success grade; It is obtained as a result of adding 40% of the midterm/midterm exam grade point average and 60% of the overall/make-up exam grade. Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry Education and Examination Regulations are taken as basis.
