History
Department of Turkish Language and Literature of Hacettepe University was established in 1969 by Prof.Dr. Şükrü Elçin. From 1969 to 1974 it has offered only Ph.D. degrees on Turkish language and Turkish literature. Student admission to the undergraduate program began in 1975. In the same year, a master's program was also launched in addition to the doctoral program. Our department continued its activities under the Faculty of Letters following the division of the Faculty of Social and Administrative Sciences into the Faculty of Letters and the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in 1982.

Admission Requirements
To enroll in the undergraduate program of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, students must have completed secondary education and obtained a sufficient score in the exams conducted by ÖSYM. The program admits students based on the TS score type of the LYS exam.

Graduation Requirements
To graduate from this program, students must successfully complete all courses specified in the curriculum, obtain a minimum of 240 ECTS credits, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature can work as teachers in middle and high schools, as instructors and research assistants in universities, and can hold positions in ministries, national and international organizations and companies, visual and written media outlets, publishing houses, and news agencies.
Assessment and Grading
The assessment and evaluation methods applied for each course, along with the criteria that will be taken into account for success evaluation (midterm exams, assignments, final exams, etc.) and their respective weights, are defined in the 'Evaluation System' prepared by the relevant faculty member and included in the Course Information Package. Final exams are conducted on the dates announced by the University at the specified locations and times. Students' end-of-term grades are assigned by the faculty member responsible for the course based on midterm and final exam scores, as well as their work throughout the term and attendance regulations.
The relevant articles of Hacettepe University’s Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations are applied concerning exams and course grades.
