About Programme
The Faculty of Health Sciences Paramedic Program provides a 4-year formal education. The language of instruction is Turkish. The fundamental objective of the Faculty's Paramedic Bachelor's Degree Program is to train paramedics who provide continuous, safe, and evidence-based treatment and care at the scene during the initial moments of an illness or accident, ensure the transport of the patient or injured person to the hospital in an equipped ambulance, and undertake clinical decision-making, advanced interventions, and patient advocacy throughout the entire chain of pre-hospital emergency health services.
The educational program is based on three main trends that prominently stand out in the development of paramedic education internationally:
- Positioning pre-hospital care as a practice based on clinical reasoning and decision-making;
- Expanding the occupational role to encompass advanced clinical support, critical transport, and care for special patient groups in addition to emergency care;
- Disseminating a community-based paramedic approach that enables integration with community health, chronic care, and primary care.
Therefore, students conduct structured field practices at Hacettepe University Hospitals, 112 Provincial Ambulance Services, and Family Health Centers to transform their theoretical knowledge and simulation-based training regarding the paramedic profession acquired at the university into skills, and to practically develop their knowledge and abilities.

History
Pre-hospital emergency medical services education at Hacettepe University traces its roots back to the "First and Emergency Aid Program," which was successfully conducted under the umbrella of the Vocational School of Health Services. Since its establishment in 2004, this program has made invaluable contributions to Turkey ` s emergency healthcare infrastructure over the years by training numerous qualified professionals who save lives in the field for our country ` s emergency healthcare system.
However, over time, the development of emergency medicine globally and in our country has fundamentally transformed the standards of care provided in the pre-hospital setting. The increasing complexity of critical patient care, the updating of advanced life support protocols, and the need for a much deeper academic foundation in areas such as disaster management, triage organization, and emergency healthcare systems leadership made it necessary to move beyond the limits of a two-year associate degree education.
Always pioneering in healthcare education, Hacettepe University has achieved a historic transformation in line with these global and national needs. The strong accumulation and experience of the First and Emergency Aid Associate Degree Program, which was successfully maintained for years, has been reshaped with a broader academic vision. As a result, Turkey ` s first 4-year Paramedic Bachelor ` s Degree Program was established by the Hacettepe University Senate Decision on May 7, 2026, and the Approval of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Executive Board on May 20, 2026.
This transformation has elevated the paramedic profession from merely a technical practitioner status into an academic discipline that trains professionals equipped to conduct scientific research, think analytically, and manage the pre-hospital healthcare system.
Combining its strong educational heritage from the past with an innovative vision, our department is honored to admit its first undergraduate students in the 2026-2027 academic year, initiating a new era in pre-hospital emergency medical services education in Turkey and bringing the first bachelor ` s level graduates in this field to our country. Our department is nourished by Hacettepe University ` s unique half-century of academic accumulation in medicine and health sciences. The robust field experience of Hacettepe University Hospitals ` emergency departments and a contemporary educational vision constitute the most solid scientific foundation of our 4-year undergraduate program.
