Department of Mining Engineering

History
Hacettepe University, Department of Mining Engineering having a distinguished place among the mining engineering departments in Turkey, aims at bringing out engineers knowledgeable in extraction and beneficiation ores, capable of using computers and possessing good social qualifications.There are Mineral Processing and Mining divisions in our department where the language of education is English.Due to the discipline and the area of interests of Mining Engineering being very wide, there are elective courses in the department which will provide more information to the students in the subjects they prefer. Additionally, there are thorough laboratory applications together with theoretical courses. It is compulsory for students to conclude two summer practices each being 20 work days.There are mining, rock mechanics, marble technologies, ventilation, mineral processing and chemical analysis laboratories in our department. In these laboratories, all tests are performed according to the standards and various services are offered regarding mineral processing tests, underground and open pit mining and tunneling. Also, in our department, there is a computer laboratory with well-equipped computers assigned for the use of the students.

Admission Requirements
Admission of high school graduates to universities is primarily through a nationwide examination organized by ÖSYM (www.osym.gov.tr). The students accepted to the department are subjected to English Proficiency Test by School of Foreign Languages. The students who qualify in this test can immediately start the B.Sc. program. The unqualified students start a preparatory program in which there is an intensive English education which develops their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. The students who qualify in this preparatory period start the B.Sc. program.An undergraduate student can transfer among the programs in faculties and schools of Hacettepe University (internal) and from domestic and foreign universities to equivalent programs of Hacettepe University (external) according to the provisions given in "The Regulations for Transfer Between Associate and Undergraduate Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Double Major, Undergraduate Minor and Transfer of Credit Among Institutions" and the conditions determined by the Senate. Corresponding Executive Board decides on the transfers and course exemption. Internal transfers are performed in fall semester for undergraduate programs, in fall-spring semesters for associate programs and external transfers are performed in fall semester for associate and undergraduate programs (see http://www.oid.hacettepe.edu.tr).

Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from undergraduate program of Department of Mining Engineering, students should take and successfully complete at least 159 credits of courses (240 ECTS), have a general academic grade point average of at least 2.00 (see http://www.oid.hacettepe.edu.tr) on a 4.00 scale, and succesfully complete 40 days of summer practice.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduated students can work in various coal and metal mines, mineral processing and enrichment plants, cement industry, various transportation tunnels, dimension stone and marble quarries, sand and gravel quarries, ceramic industry and engineering consultancy firms which are specialized in projects and feasibility studies. Graduates could be able to find job opportunities in the countries with developped mining sector such as Canada, Australia and South Africa.

Assessment and Grading
Applied measurement and evaluation methods for each course are described in “Course Study Plan” coordinated by lecturer/instructor related with the course.
