Quantum Science and Engineering

About Programme
Quantum science and engineering is an interdisciplinary field that aims to develop next-generation technologies using the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics that go beyond the laws of classical physics. Quantum technologies utilize the properties of quantum physics such as superposition, quantum entanglement, quantum tunneling, non-clonability, noise squeezing, etc. to provide computing, sensing and communication methods that are much more powerful than classical systems. Developments in this field are transforming many sectors such as computing, communications, materials science and sensing technologies.
The main focus areas of quantum technologies are:
- Quantum Sensing and Metrology
- Quantum Computing and Simulation
- Quantum Cryptography and Communication
Within the scope of the program, the topics that form the basis of scientific and technological developments in the above-mentioned fields are given through various mandatory and elective courses, and it is aimed to transform theoretical knowledge into practice with a comprehensive laboratory course within the scope of photonic quantum technologies.
Quantum technology-based companies, telecommunication firms, government research institutes and defense industries are interested in experts trained in this field. This program not only orients students towards academic research but also provides them with skills that can be applied in industry, making it easier for them to be employed in companies that develop quantum technologies.
This master's program aims to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and experimental application skills. Students will learn a wide range of topics from the basic principles of quantum computers to quantum cryptography systems and will have the opportunity to use this knowledge in practical applications. They will also gain the ability to model and simulate quantum systems and gain an in-depth understanding of how these systems work.
Graduates with a master's degree will contribute to the closing of the shortage of trained personnel in quantum technologies in public institutions and organizations, private sector and universities in our country and abroad.
Students accepted to the master's program will have access to applied research opportunities in the quantum technologies research and training laboratories at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences and will be able to specialize by taking an active role in research projects in our research groups during their master's education.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
|
Students with a master's degree in quantum science and engineering will be preferred as researchers/engineers in the fields of photonics and photonic quantum technologies (sensing, computing, optical design, nano-photonics, etc.), especially in R&D and P&D activities in the defense industry and other high-tech companies. On the other hand, with their knowledge of the literature in the field of quantum technologies and their ability to interpret the strengths and weaknesses of new technologies, they will be able to continue their careers as project engineers and managers in public institutions and organizations and related private sector companies. They will also be able to work as academician and researcher in universities and research institutes.

Assessment and Grading
The assessment and evaluation methods applied for each course, the criteria to be taken into account in the success evaluation of the courses (midterm exam, homework, final exam, etc.) defined in. Final exams are held on the dates announced by the University, at the specified place and time. The final grades of the students are given by the lecturer responsible for the course according to the midterm and final exam grades, the studies they carried out during the semester and the attendance rules. Regarding exams and course grades, the relevant articles of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exam Regulations are applied. Assessment and evaluation may vary for each course. For this reason, course information packages should be checked.
