History
The establishment of the Faculty of Law at Hacettepe University was initiated by the University Senate through its resolution dated 01.05.2002 and numbered 2002-53, and approved by the Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK) on 19.07.2002 (decision no. 2002.7.70). Based on this approval, the proposal was submitted to the Ministry of National Education. Following the Ministry’s consideration, the Council of Ministers approved the foundation of the Faculty on 14.07.2005, and the official status was granted through its publication in the Official Gazette on 05.08.2005 (issue no. 25897).
The undergraduate program of the Faculty shares a common structure with other law faculties in Turkey regarding compulsory courses, but it differs significantly in the richness and variety of elective courses. The curriculum is designed not to produce mere memorisers of legal codes but to cultivate critical, analytical, and intellectually curious legal professionals. With this vision, the program integrates core social sciences such as philosophy, sociology, and anthropology into the legal education framework.
With the transition to a 30% English-medium program by the decision of the Faculty Board of Hacettepe University Faculty of Law (dated January 25, 2025, and numbered FKK01), this historical legacy and academic structure have been further strengthened. Students receive comprehensive education in Turkish law while simultaneously developing proficiency in English legal terminology and concepts through selected English-taught courses. The program prepares students for multilingual legal practice and international legal careers. Exchange programs such as Erasmus+ offer valuable opportunities to explore foreign legal systems firsthand and to engage in cross-border academic experiences.

Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the undergraduate program at the Faculty of Law, applicants must have completed their secondary education in Turkey or at an equivalent institution abroad, and must have obtained a qualifying score in the national university entrance examination.
Within the scope of the 30% English program, students are required to take an English proficiency exam. All students must first pass the mandatory placement test, and subsequently obtain a minimum score of 65 on the English proficiency exam in order to begin their undergraduate studies. Students who do not meet the required proficiency level enroll in the English Preparatory Program offered by the School of Foreign Languages at Hacettepe University. Those who successfully complete the preparatory program are then eligible to start their undergraduate education.
In accordance with the Faculty Executive Board Decision no. 2023-228 dated 19.12.2023, the student admission quota has been revised: from 200 students to 150 as of 2024, and to 120 as of 2025. This policy aims to maintain smaller class sizes and enhance the quality of education and student-instructor interaction.

Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the Faculty of Law 30% English undergraduate program, students are required to complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits. There are no additional graduation requirements such as compulsory internships, final thesis, or capstone projects.
Students must obtain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00. Upon graduation, they are awarded the “Bachelor of Laws (LL.B)” degree.
Thanks to the partially English-medium curriculum, graduates are equipped with both a comprehensive understanding of Turkish law and practical command of legal English, enabling them to navigate international legal materials and operate in multilingual legal environments. Depending on their career choices, graduates may go on to work as judges, prosecutors, lawyers, academicians, or legal consultants, among other professional titles.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of the 30% English-taught program are awarded the title of "Faculty of Law Graduate." Those who fulfill the legal requirements—by passing the relevant professional exams and completing necessary vocational education and internships—are eligible to practice as lawyers, judges, or prosecutors.
Beyond traditional legal professions, graduates of this program are well-prepared for careers in both the public and private sectors, thanks to their English proficiency and exposure to comparative and international legal education. They may work in international law firms, legal departments of multinational corporations, embassies and consulates, international organizations and NGOs, arbitration and mediation institutions
Furthermore, the program’s emphasis on legal research and English legal terminology provides graduates with a strong foundation to pursue postgraduate academic studies in Turkey or abroad. The language and analytical skills gained through the program enhance their access to global educational and professional opportunities.

Assessment and Grading
In accordance with the Hacettepe University Associate and Undergraduate Education Regulations, each course includes at least one midterm and one final exam per semester. At the Faculty of Law, all exams are scheduled during officially designated exam weeks to ensure a secure and organized testing environment and the effective use of classrooms and lecture halls.
The contribution of the final exam to the overall course grade ranges between 40% and 60%, as determined by the course instructor and stated in the course information package. Exams are typically written and may include open-ended, multiple choice, true-false, or fill-in-the-blank questions. In some courses, alternative assessment methods such as homework, projects, or presentations may also be employed.
In the context of the 30% English-taught curriculum, English-medium courses are designed to assess both students’ legal knowledge and their academic English proficiency. Assessment criteria in these courses also consider students' skills in academic legal writing, comprehension, and analysis in English. Attendance is monitored in line with the University’s academic regulations and is a prerequisite for participating in exams.
